Background Research report (CLO 1)

“Optimism”

Introduction

In this report I will describe the “optimistic life” and how it makes changes in people’s lives. First I will take a look at why optimism is important in our daily life and how to motivate you to be an optimistic person, and how changing your thinking will change your life.
In this big subject, I will also discuss the effect of optimism on people and how much it can make such people successful in their lives. Also I will justify this topic from the real life and will give a real example for that. Finally, I will conclude this report with a proposal for research within the Higher Colleges of Technology.

Report

Optimistic Life
Optimism is being hopeful and confident it is a feeling or belief that good things will happen in the future (Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2016). The optimistic person is always looking for the best in any bad situation and always expecting positive things to happen. It doesn’t matter with optimistic people even if they lose their jobs still they feel happy and believe that they will recover soon. This is the optimistic life where there is always a tendency to more positive thinking and where there is ability to change everything.

How to Be Optimistic
The question now is how to be optimistic?. Based on some research, some psychologists think that we can learn to be optimistic (Schwecher, L., 2015), where others believe that optimistic people were born with this trait. They think that there are factors that govern the ability to think positively, such as the cultural background, depression, unhappiness and lower economic level (A. Dunavold, P., 1997).
Generally, to be optimistic you must change your thinking and follow the steps. You have to recognize the good and bad things in your life, look for the positive things and try to check or identify if your inner monologue is optimistic or not.

Effect of Optimism

Today there are a lot of studies about optimism and all of them found that optimistic people could do better in life. The most important effect in optimism is happiness, where you can see all the optimistic people are happy plus full of positive thinking. Optimism will give a happy successful life, popularity, good social life, satisfaction, and increases in productivity, relieve stress and improve the mental health. All of these are aspects and real effects of optimism (Conversano, C., Rotondo, A., Lensi, E., Della Vista, O., Arpone, F., & Reda, M. A., 2010). People who use optimism as a positive energy will gain success in different aspects of their lives, because they are always thinking about the good things. They will always have success in their work careers or at home. Not to mention their popularity among their friends.  This satisfaction probably stays for the long term due to the optimism in people’s lives.
But always keep in mind that being too optimistic can lead to side effects. Having positive expectations for every situation can cause failure. People need to “hope for the best, prepare for the worst” (Newcomer, L., 2015). Thinking that way can help people to respond better to the different situations they might face.

Motivation to Be an Optimistic Person

“Motivation determines the reason for an individual’s behavior. (Muller, S., 2010b). Because of motivation, people take actions to reach their goals. Optimism is the ability to think always on the positive side, to motivate yourself by keeping your thinking always positive; that doesn’t mean you don’t care about anything or you do not find a difficulty at all, but it means you try to find a positive factor in all situations (Muller, S., 2010a). So don’t let yourself go through the bad mood, and try to put for yourself exciting aims to reach in the future. Moreover, surrounding yourself with positively thinking people can give you great bright influence of motivation.
There are different effective motivational techniques to follow, such as (Muller, S., 2010b):
·      Setting a goal for yourself to keep you focused and motivated to reach that goal
·      Keep your goals in your mind and never forget them. Write them down in a list of goals and read it once or twice daily.
·      Work out your imagination and draw a clear picture of your goals and the outcomes that you want to achieve from these goals.

Justification

This topic will be very helpful for everybody in the UAE and around the world, because it shows them and describes about the optimistic life and positive energy. This will help people to motivate themselves to reach their success through the positive thinking. This can be proved by a real example from the United Arab Emirates: HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and what he did in Dubai in the last 10 years. He is a real optimistic person and always has positive thinking. Because of that, he reached his aims and he developed the country to a remarkable improvement. That’s why you should be an optimistic person.

Conclusion:
The optimism is a nice habit and it can take the person who has it to satisfaction and success. Also it gives confidence relaxation in daily life and makes you more powerful to find solutions for problems. So do not wait to take the inspiration from people but be the inspiration for them.
